"With this project, I wished to explore how people present themselves to the world rather than how people are seen by the world. I sought the creation of a persona in a beauty salon, for this setting perfectly addresses how people construct an exterior self. At the Pink Terrace, every patron has a particular hairdresser that one regularly sees. Familiar faces create a familiar space, allowing the women to genuinely relax, joke, and spend time together. The Pink Terrace is a familiar place for me and my own persona-making process, so I have replicated this space and placed myself in it.
I believe that persona is an ever-present thing that influences interaction and action, for better or worse. Interestingly enough, the beauty salon creates personas, but the patrons never seem to wear one."
